RE: The White [07 / 07, 1668 | Whitevale | Zylla and Kytex, CLOSED]
Having successfully recorded her improvised lyrics to the traditional Draken song, Zylla left the gauntlet playing up in the tree, and made a very quiet approach to the Aurin's new shelter, grinning like an idiot as she located a suitable rock.

She took a look at the sealed shelter and nodded. Not bad at all. Too good, even.

She had no trouble spotting the shelter's venting hole and placed the rock very, very carefully over it, plugging it completely and making a stealthy retreat towards the treeline as her recorded voice echoed from somewhere in the woods. It would take but moments for the bonfire's smoke to fill the den as it had no other way to go.

Which is why the tactic is called "smoking out" someone.

This tactic would have worked, of course, had Kytex kept the fire going. However, with the added pelts to his already fur-and-flesh augmented monstrosity of a wintersuit, he didn't need to worry very much about keeping warm (at least while inside) and put the fire out as soon as the snow had finished melting in his canteen.

So he simply curled up, sipping his hot cocoa in the dark. It was a rather interesting experience really, as now he had nothing to see and had begun reminiscing the days past, thinking about everyone back at the Sassy...mainly Jane.

...He hoped she wouldn't be too worried about him.

Yet at the moment, he begun to worry a bit himself, after hearing some very, /very/ subtle rustling outside, the den started to smell a bit like smoke, mainly the ceiling.

...Oh. So that's how it's going to be.

Clearly she was trying to rouse him from his den again so they could play fetch-the-fluffy. Well he wouldn't have it, god damn it! Kytex was going to stay right here until she would stop frolicking about like an idiot, pulling 'pranks' on him, and fight him for once.

Just to spite her, he pulled out one of his thinner sticks and poked it up the ventilation shaft...and tipped whatever was covering the hole.

Then he stabbed a couple more ventilation holes in random areas in the ceiling before turning his attention back to his hot cocoa.

Zylla chuckled at the stick poking holes in the ceiling. Stubborn. Well, it was time to turn the notch on the game.

She returned to her campsite and began working with varied herbs from her pouches. Her more practical concoctions mixed herbal essences with omniplasm, but the nanotech goo only enhanced what was already there, she knew the natural properties of the leaves and roots she was mashing together into a fine powder.

It took her less than an hour's work to have the little bundles ready. She grabbed a couple more things from her pack before returning to the Aurin's little den.

She covered her mouth and nose with a scarf before lighting the cloth puches on fire with a lighter. She was quick and unsubtle, placing the pouches over some of the extra holes he had poked and covering three of them with camper pots to make sure the smoke flowed into the den.

She then plugged the main vent again, this time with a far deadlier tool than a rock.

She had primed these landmines for her original plan: hurt, scare, maybe maim, but not kill. It was mostly the propellant and pebbles rather than slag shrapnel, but if he poked it or moved it... boom.

She gated away and took a deep breath of fresh air. The herb's smoke was pungent and poisonous. Not in a kill-you poisonous way, but it would cause nausea and severe retching for a few hours with the smallest wiff, and if he wanted to keep her pots... well, good luck, as the smoke had by now coated them with its substance.

The moment he heard rushing, he immediately pulled apart the furthest wall and burrowed in, not wanting to know what ghastly trick she had up her sleeve, and replaced the wall behind himself, covering his tracks and burrowing slowly northward as he rebuilds the dirt behind himself to prevent her from being able to track him while he's digging.

Just to ensure full security of self in the matter, he tossed and turned in the dirt below, masking his own scent with the scent of the native dirt, before resuming his small, secret burrowing towards the north.

...The only problem in his plan now is that eventually he has to come up for air.

He wasn't coming out.

Zylla knew that he couldn't be asleep. The retching alone would wake him, and she'd hear it.

So she approached the main entrance to the den and shot a stream of bullets into it. Nothing still. She covered her mouth and nose again and poked her head inside... empty, but there were no tracks outside that would mark his leaving, and there were some stuff laying around. And she noticed the loose dirt.

Oh, no, he wasn't. She arced an eyebrow and chuckled, walking outside and marking the position of the den.

She began clearing snow by the expedient method of melting it from bursts of flame shooting from her mag-pistols. And the she put her ear on the ground.

Yep. The sound of digging. He was actually trying to dig his way back home. She shook her head, calculating his rate of progress, she guessed he'd be by the edge of the clearing in the morning if he kept things up. A Granok or a Mechari might pull it off, but a fleshy organic? Tsk, not a chance.

Points for trying, though, but that didn't mean she'd let up the pressure; she had him on the run at last.

She began shooting a barrage on the ground around where she guessed he was, in a wide pattern interrupted only by detonations coming from fiery rocks evoked from her sigils. She wasn't hoping to penetrate the soil, she was only making noise and vibrations to keep the Aurin on edge, in fear that his little burrow could collapse at any moment.

She let her pistols cool down after nearly a minute of continuous fire, and crouched low to listen.

Silence.

A golden ring somewhere from behind Zylla, with Kytex being deposited unceremoniously unto the snow.

"Boo." He simply said as he face planted in the snow. "There, now you can disappear into the void with your tail between your legs, like you seem to enjoy doing. Go on, shoo."

He gestured smugly to the draken female while lying on his stomach, waving her off.

She turned around the moment she heard the characteristic sound of magical teleportation; then she giggled at Kytex dismissal. So he was finally getting what this was about, but he miscalculated if he thought he'd get a rise out of her by calling her a coward.

So she spun around and leaped high, with a parting shot before she disappeared behind a golden sigil.

The single bullet hit the landmine she had placed on top of the little shelter, triggering its detonation and completely burying the makeshift refuge and everything Kytex might have left behind in there.

Back in her treetop refuge, she began singing again, loud enough and clear enough so the Aurin understood the words, a reminder of why she was doing this: for Abbigail.

RE: The White [07 / 07, 1668 | Whitevale | Zylla and Kytex, CLOSED]
[Hours Later, Into The Night]

He trudged on in the snow, frowning deeply. It took him a bit to realize that she had been singing for her 'boss', not for him. Perhaps this is how she intended the song to be for him: painful and bitter, just as much as the war has been, and as much as the fight between Sovereign and Malverines will be.

Kytex sighed, burrowing into the ground once more, tunneling deeper than usual, creating his own little maze of dens, filled with all sorts of nooks and crannies to hide or sleep in without much of a fear of being disturbed. This particular abode was much deeper than the last few and contains six adjacent rooms spread out from each other at random distances and angles, each room with high rising ceilings and different exits...

He closed his eyes in on of the deeper rooms, trying his best to not imagine what Zylla's boss might've been like for her to seek revenge quite like this. He did toss and turn a little, absolutely pissed that he got caught in the middle of blood feud that he technically wasn't even apart of. Why him? Why not the person who killed her boss?

...Then again, anyone else in his shoes might've died by now. Or maybe not, maybe that weird Draken would've taken far more pity to them.

Still, he tired of this game. Emotionally. It was more fun when he didn't have that damned Siren running around.

...As he closed his eyes, he can only wish to be back home sooner.

Zylla took a nap when the Aurin began digging another hole. When she woke up, he was still at it. Really, what did he hope to accomplish? His actions bewildered her a little, but at least she was getting a measure of him. If she had more time, she'd make a more elaborate plan to break him, and the accomplishment would have gained her great honor and renown among Clan Shattersoul, but for now, pushing him close to his breaking point would be enough. She packed her gear and jumped from the tree, her airbreaks cushioning the fall and allowing her to land and get on her hoverboard with nary a sound.

She quickly got her bearings; they were actually not that far from the original strike point, as the Aurin insisted on building elaborate shelters instead of making progress in his travel. With her mental map updated, she made a circuit on the traps she'd set before, and produced two jabbits for eating, but the most interesting catch was in the seriously bent and nearly broken cage. She grinned widely and shot the creature with enough tranquilizer to put down a Great Desert Dragon.

And it was barely enough to reach the new den. She found the original entrance the Aurin had begun with, and set the creature loose. It was just morning, but she estimated that he couldn't have been asleep for too long, given how much time he'd spent digging.

She slid away quickly and climbed a tree-covered hill, from which she could watch the events below with her binoculars.

The chompacabra shook off the effects of the sedative and caught the warmth coming from the den. Zylla cackled a little to herself. Chompacabras were not deadly to seasoned adventurers, but being stuck with a hungry one in a tunnel would not be a happy experience for anyone. It'd prolly go first for the the Aurin's stores of food; if he was smart, he'd let it have them and would run before it decided to taste Aurin flesh.

As long as he refused to rest properly or move faster, the Aurin was doing half her work for her.

((OOC: Suddenly, a wild chompacabra appears!))
